Course Information
The course was created on over 210 acres of serene rolling hills, tall pine trees, beautiful ponds and the babbling Butter Brook which flows directly down the middle of the property. It is conveniently located at the junction of Route 225 and Route 27 on the Westford, Carlisle and Acton town lines.
This Mark Mungeam design, of the world famous Cornish, Silva & Mungeam golf course architectural firm, is a par 72 layout, stretching from 5000 yards to 6800 yards with four sets of tees.
Butter Brook is a golf course designed in the classic tradition. The course is located on ideal sandy soils, among mature white pines in the Boston suburb of Westford. Following the classic style, the natural terrain was studied and the golf holes routed accordingly.
The existing rolls and hollows define the strategy for many of the golf holes. On the sixth hole for example, if a player is able to carry two left fairway bunkers that sit into an existing hillock, the backside slope will kick the ball further towards the green and reward players with the best approach angle.
There are four sets of tee markers per hole, and great variation in green design. The greens have gentle rolls and changes in slope, to place a premium on putting. The 32 bunkers, randomly spread throughout the course, define shot angles and entice aggressive play.
